Question:
Rumours that Elton John will be singing "Candle in the Wind" at Will and Kate's wedding?

The buzz I am picking up on the net is credibly showing that as stated, William gave Diana Spencer's engagement ring to Ms. Middleton because he wished Ms. Spencer to be at the wedding in spirit. The buzz is suggesting that he has also asked Elton John, via his uncle Edward to sign a reprise of his 1997 version of Candle in the Wind. Is there any truth to this and if so is this in shockingly bad taste?

That's funny ... Elton just spoke w/me via email recently and mentioned singing "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road." Perhaps he's undecided at the moment.

Nope.

It's been made clear that Elton John will not be singing at the wedding, that no pop stars of any kind will be performing. Prince William wants the wedding to be traditional. And why anyone would have expected Elton John or any other pop star 35 years older than the bride and groom and not at all of their generation or musical tastes to be singing at a wedding ceremony in Westminster Abbey is entirely beyond me. The whole idea sounded ridiculous when I first heard about it, but then, the media are so desperate for stories about the royal wedding that they'll claim just about anything.

John's performance at the late Princess of Wales' funeral was in pretty bad taste, but then, Diana's taste was pretty tacky, so it made sense that her funeral was, too.

Now, far be it from me to correct anybody, but one must inform dear Evie that the piece of music to which she is referring is actually known as "Trumpet Voluntary". No need to worry dear girl, we all make mistakes.

Now to answer your question dear boy, one has it on quite good authority that Elton John will give a rousing rendition of "The B*tch" is Back". It must not be inferred that this will have anything to do with the fact that Princess Pushy will be among the guests in Westminster Abbey.

Seriously, Lady Diana Spencer walked up the aisle to the strains of Jeremiah Clarke's "Trumphet Voluntary"*, personally chose "I Vow to Thee, My Country", and exited St. Paul's Cathedral to the music of Edward Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance". Prince William and Miss Middleton's wedding will very definitely be traditionally High Church.

P. S. --That rules out the "Circle of Life" as well.

Thanks, Lucan. I doubled checked, and it's "Triumphet Voluntary" rather than Triumphant Voluntary".*
