Hey,

I was just wondering, since Prince Harry is second born, will his wife also be a Duchess/Princess. Also, if Harry has children, will his children be known as Prince and Princess. What about Prince William's children. This is a history question

His future wife would become Princess Harry but he would also likely be given a peerage and probably a dukedom by the monarch as a wedding present. Previous royal dukedoms have been:

Albany

Albemarle

Avondale

Clarence

Connaught

Cumberland

Hereford

Kendal

Ross

St Andrews

Strathearn

Sussex

Teviotdale

Windsor

Personally I think Sussex or Clarence most likely.

As to his children's title it would depend on when or if Charles succeeds the throne. Only the children, male line grandchildren and the eldest son of the eldest son of the eldest son of the monarch may be considered a prince/princess of the United Kingdom. So if Harry has children before the Queen dies they will be Lord/Lady until Charles comes to the throne then they will be Prince/Princess Similarly with William is eldest son will be a Prince but the rest of his children will be Lord/Lady if they are born before the Queen dies. However with the likely change in succession laws it is highly likely that the Queen may change it so Williams eldest child regardless of sex would be a prince/ss.

Women assume the titles and styles of their husbands.Prince Harry is likely to be bestowed a royal duke so his wife would assume his titles and be a royal duchess and princess. Bearing a royal peerage title is higher in status than just being a princess alone. Under Letters Patent of George V, Harry's children are to be styled as the children of a peer, if Harry marries and has children while Queen Elizabeth is still alive. George V Letters Patent state that:"...that the children of any Sovereign of the United Kingdom and the children of the sons of any such Sovereign and the eldest living son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales shall have and at all times hold and enjoy the style, title or attribute of Royal Highness with their titular dignity of Prince or Princess prefixed to their respective Christian names or with their other titles of honour...the grandchildren of the sons of any such Sovereign in the direct male line (save only the eldest living son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales) shall have the style and title enjoyed by the children of Dukes."

Queen Elizabeth issued a Letters Patent stating that all children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales are to be prince or princess. William's children are Prince George of Cambridge and Princess Charlotte of Cambridge. Cambridge is William's ducal title designation.

If Harry has children after his father his king, they will be prince and princess since they will be grandchildren of a monarch. Children born to Harry before Charles is king also become prince or princess at this time...but these children will be the only people whose titles will be upgraded...William's children are already prince and princess and Harry is the only other child of Charles; titles would be upgraded for Harry's children because they would then be the grandchildren of a monarch.

Due to him being the son of Charles the Prince of Wales, Harry is Prince Henry of Wales and his wife would be Princess Henry of Wales, though she would be unlikely to use that title and would most probably become a Duchess as Kate did.

Technically, Harry is a commoner, as he has no title. Presumably, he would be created a Duke when he marries, so, his wife would become a Duchess. Because he is a prince, she could be called "Princess Harry of ...," but, she would not be a princess herself. However, their children likely would be.

Which title he would get (if any) would be up to the reigning monarch at the time of his marriage. Second sons are often the "Duke of York," but, Andrew is already Duke of York, so, this cannot happen unless Andrew dies before Harry marries, which is very unlikely..

Prince Harry's wife would be a princess - or a duchess if Harry is given a dukedom as expected. His children would not be entitled to princely titles as long as the Queen is alive as princely titles go only to children of a monarch or grandchildren through a male line. Harry's children would be great-grandchildren. But as soon as the Queen dies and Prince Charles becomes king, they would get princely titles.

However, the Queen can issue special letters patent to vary titles - as she did to allow Prince George and Princess Charlotte to get their titles before they would normally have done so. And sometimes royal parents choose not to use their children's full titles, as is the case with Viscount Seven and Lady Louise Windsor - who are really a prince and a princess and may choose to use these styles in the future.
