That is one of the many theories. There were several suspects in the case. One of the theories I read about was that there were a select group of men searching for an illegitimate off spring of the Duke of Clarence in order to avoid a scandal. There was another theory that it was a butcher known as leather apron. We may never find out the truth.

The Ripper was not a royal;at one time, people thought that he might be the eldest son of Edward,Prince of Wales. But that belief changed and many now believe that an actor or a doctor, was the Ripper.

Prince Albert Victor died at a young age from pneumonia;he had always been of a sickly constitution.

I once attended a lecture by the crime novelist Patricia Cornwell on this subject. With great verve and animation, she told the story of her own detective work which proved, at least to her own satisfaction, that Jack the Ripper was some prominent artist of the time. Great fun. She has an accent somewhat like Jodie Foster's in "Silence of the Lambs" and she's a riveting speaker .

the ripper was never caught, it is still an unsolved case. one theory was that prince albert was the ripper but most historians give it very little credit as he was away from london during several of the killings and many other reasons. if you want some good info on jack check out the site below.

Chief suspect in the case was Montague John Druitt, a failed barrister and teacher who committed suicide shortly after the last murder. He was not royal, but moved in the same secret homosexual circles as Prince Eddy, younger son of the Prince of Wales and directly in line to the throne. It was apparently because of his close connection to the Prince that his probable identity as the Ripper was never made public.

That theory wasn't put forth until the 1970s by a man who, incidentally, was also claiming to be the illigitimate descendant of the same supposedly guilty royal. There's really no evidence supporting the claim. it appears to be a cry for 15 minutes of fame.

This is an unlikely scenario, but common conspiracy theory.

Read "Portrait of a Killer:Jack the Ripper, Case Closed" by Patricia Cornwall. Its got more scientific evidence backing her theories...

That theory is followed up in 'From Hell' but it is generally seen as unconvincing, as it is based entirely on a story that Stephen Knight (the author) claims he was told by Joseph Sickert. But in The Sunday Times of London, on June 18, 1978, Sickert said of this story: "It was a hoax; I made it all up," and it was "a whopping fib," a pure invention.
