Queen Elizabeth II of United Kingdom :P

At least for me.

Because of her length of reign, and the strength of the UK monarchy, the present Queen Elizabeth II is the most famous queen in the world.

Regardless of their country of origin, even when questions are asked here about "the Queen" with no other descriptor...the correct assumption is that the question is about the current UK Queen.

Queen Victoria must rank up there with the most famous. Hers was an era of vast exploration and many places were named after her (eg: Victoria, Australia, Victoria, Hong Kong, the Victoria Falls etc). There's also the Victoria Cross and all those statues of her around the world. She's a very recognisable figure, and the Victorian Era was a very long one.

4 that I believe are the most renowned in no particular order..

Cleopatra... She is still remembered as the Queen of Egypt after all this time. She actually ruled her peoples.

The Dowager Empress of China. She also ruled with an "Iron Hand". She is remembered by a country with the most people on earth.

The First Emperor of China. the One who conquered & united their peoples. Who built the Great Wall. The Terra Cotta warriors.

King Athur - the fabled mystic King of Camelot.

Being from an English speaking country, it seems to me Queen Ellizabeth II, but there are so many, that from another language group, you would find other answers, I'm sure.

King Arthur (Somewhat fictional/but reality based around the 500's AD.)

The popularity has spawned a long lasting folklore/mythology that has lasted 1500 years.. How long will QE II be remembered when she is gone?

What is? Do you mean "who" is? And the answer is Queen Elizabeth II. Or maybe Elton John.

King Tut ( the boy king who may have been murdered, also the most famous curse on his tomb)

King Henry VIII (for his 6 wives and his break with the Roman Catholic church)

Queen Victoria, she ruled for almost 65 years, the longest reign (so far) of an English Monarch (plus she was also the 1st English Empress of India)

QE II who is quickly approaching matching or exceeding Q Victoria's reign (and has had a turbulent time of it so far, what with the scandals and the divorces ect.)

King Arthur (even if he is only a fictional king)

Ramesses II (there are 11 Ramesses', but the 2nd would be the most well known, as he felt that he had to put his face everywhere)

Cleopatra VII,last true, free ruling pharaoh before being absorbed into Roman Empire (THE Cleopatra) (was married to her brother Ptolemy XIV, as well as being involved with Julius Caesar and Marc Antony) (Cleopatra VII had an affair with Roman Dictator Julius Caesar, and Roman General Marc Antony, but it was not until after her suicide in 30 BC (after Marc Antony was defeated by Octavian, who would later be the emperor Augustus) that Egypt became a province of Rome in 30 BC. Subsequent Roman Emperors were accorded the title of Pharaoh, although exclusively while in Egypt. One Egyptian king-list lists the Roman Emperors as Pharaohs up to and including Decius)

Louis XVI (16th) as being the last king of France (just for that reason, not that he was a great king)

Tsar Nicholas II (his whole family was killed in 1918, or almost all, depending on which side of the story you believe)

Queen Elizabeth I ("The Virgin Queen." Was a despot that never left England)

King Solomon

Richard the Lionheart (most famous for spending almost his entire reign fighting in the crusades.)

Edward VIII (famous (or infamous) for abdicating the throne to marry Wallis Simpson)

King James I of England (VI of Scotland), brought England and Scotland together as a united country

King Ferdinand of Aragon and Queen Isabella of Castille their marriage united Aragon and Castille in Spain (at least until she died)

Amenhotep IV (Akhenaten) of Egypt

Nefertiti, of Egypt Co-Regent with Akhenaten.

Amenhotep III of Egypt

Semerkhet of Egypt

Thutmose III, of Egypt

William th Conqueror in 1066

Hor-Aha, unifier of Upper and Lower Egypt

Djedefra believed to have created the Spinx at Giza as a monument for his father

I'm sure that you would get many more replies from people in the Muslim part of the world ( I was trying to be less offensive than to say Arab part of the world. I know that not all from that part of the world are Arab, but most are Muslim) I have no knowledge of most of that world. The only one from that part of the world would be Queen Noor

Also there are probably famous Emperors of China and Japan, again I have not much knowledge of that part of the world. I know ignorance is no excuse but I also do not wish to offend anyone in those parts of the world.

there is the Shah of Iran (Mohammad Reza Pahlavi) who was exiled in (I believe 1979) when the Ayatollah Khomeini came back to Iran after 6 years of exile

King Hussein of Jordan

King Hassan II of Morocco.

King Farouk of Egypt,

Khufu (builder of the great pyramid of Giza, the largest one)

Khafra (builder of the second largest pyramid at Giza)

Menkaura (builder of the third and smallest pyramid at Giza)

Setepenre-meryamun Alexander III (Alexander the Great)

Ptolemy I Soter grandfather father of Cleopatra (11 Greats in front of his name, founder of the Ptolemic branch of the family)

Ptolemy XII father of Cleopatra

And while not kings and Queens, who can forget Princess Grace and Prince Ranier? It was romantic the way he swept her off her feet, turning her from a humble actress into every young girls dream of a fairy tales princess.

Or for that matter, Diana Princess of Wales and as many people like to say "The Queen of Hearts"

It all just depends on the nationality of the person that you ask. Personally since I am a citizen of the United States, I have no king or queen, I just hear about them in other countries. I cannot tell you if they are good or bad, having never lived under their rule. I think the closest we came to "Royalty" were Elvis "King of Rock n Roll" and Michael Jackson "King of Pop"

I could list more because your question was so vague, but I'm stopping here because I am tired. I deliberatly left out the majority if the Kings of France, because it would have made the list even longer ;)
