The Greek Royal Family, which DOES EXIST (sorry HRH Duchess of Windsor), does not reign or rule anymore. The Greek people voted to get rid of them back in 1973.Although, King Constantine II never abdicated he is considered a pretender.

Now to answer the question......

No. The current Greek Royal Family does not go back to 1200 BC. It only goes back to 1863. In 1863, The House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg began in Greece with George I as the new "King of the Hellenes". George was born a Danish Prince.

The Danish Royal Family is an extension of the UK Royal Family. The King of Greece, Constantine II, is the line of succession to both the Danish and British thrones. He is a 1st cousin, once removed of another member of the extended Greek Royal Family----Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh and wife of UK Queen and the brother of another---Queen Sofia of Spain, wife of Spanish King Juan Carlos I.

Also Constantine, Sofia, and Phillip are descendants of Queen Victoria of the UK and Constantine and Sofia are descendants of Kaiser Frederick III of Germany making them members of the defunct German Royal Family. This means that all 3 are in the line of succession to the UK throne but they're like in the 500s. Phillip was #521 a month or so ago but the number changes almost constantly due to births, deaths, or marriages to Catholics of the people in the line which officially extends to over 1000 people. Although Constantine and Sofia are in the line of succession to the Danish throne, Phillip renounced his place in the line of succession to both the Greek and Danish thrones and renounced his Greek citizenship in order to to become a British citizen. He did this to make himself more palatable to Elizabeth's parents and get their approval to him marrying Elizabeth.

Not at all dear girl. I believe I read somewhere that the current Greek royal family are the descendants of a Danish pastry chef who, by a simple twist of fate, came to be the Danish king. Quite frankly, I'll wager there may be one or two distorted facts in the story but I shall present the information as read, with no guarantees attached.

Maybe we're getting caught up in semantics here, but it is debatable whether the Greek royal family exists anymore. There are certainly a group of people who are referred to that way, but they have no title in Greece. I'd argue very strongly that you can't call yourself a king if you don't have a kingdom!

But let's move on and answer your question. The family in question descends from Danish, Russian, and German royals from the late 19th and early 20th century. They have no ancient connection to Greece. Perhaps if they did, we might be able to take them seriously.

Heck no they aren't. All of them are a pack of Europeans from Germany and other countries.....who gained European thrones and then decided they were also entitled to thrones in places like India, Greece, etc. No one in those other countries ever asked them to take over their thrones....they just wanted them and took them.

Most of them got booted out after the defeat of Napoleon, or later during the continental war times of the First and Second World Wars. The combination of the Industrial revolution...rise of the middle class....and the first and second World Wars.....led to the dethroning of many a royal.

I don't know if it is still in print or not, but there is a very good book written about all of them...even the minor ones...called "The Fall of the Dynasties". In any case, even places like Wikipedia will give you the history of the royal families.....and the series of events and skullduggery that led to the way they took over thrones of countries.
