The royal family have announced that the prince will be called George Alexander Louis, though he will be known as Prince George, do you like the new name are would you have rather called him something else? I personally thought George was too obvious and not really an surprise.

I don't know why anyone really thought the first name would be a surprise and not obvious. I hoped they'd be a little more imaginative than "George," but I also said I thought that was the first name they would pick.

George is not my favorite name, but of course it's fine for a British royal. I am a little surprised that they did not give the baby the additional names of Charles, Philip, and Michael. Alexander and Louis are also fine, though. Charles should be pleased by Louis, since he was so close to his great uncle, Louis, Lord Mountbatten. Alexander makes a nod to a Scottish king, and since they met in Scotland, that seems appropriate.

I don't really have many feelings on his name as I obviously don't have much to do with the Royal Family, but I heard something the other day that made me laugh! Vernon Kay said that as he was scrolling down his Twitter News feed and sifting through multiple headlines of 'New Prince', 'New Addition to the Royal Family' and 'What Will He Be Called?' he saw 'Thunderstorm', relating to a big storm over the UK. But he thought, 'I wonder if that's what he's been named?'. How cool would 'King Thunderstorm' be?!

Actually, George was not so obvious, since the current Queen had three sons and didn't gave to ANY of them "George" as a first name (in Charles i believe is fourth). And as we know it was the name of her father. Charles also chose otherwise, so it was a surprise for me that the great grandson of George VI finally decided to honor his name.

I liked the use of Alexander as the second one, since this name is completely absent from the British Royal history, despite being prominent in the Scottish Royals. Is also a pleasant name and also an indirect homage to the Queen, who has it as a middle name. Interestingly, Alexandrina was the first name of Queen Victoria, even if she rarely used it.

Louis is an obvious homage to Louis Mountbatten, uncle and guardian of Prince Phip.

Also, notice the limiting the number of names to 3, instead 4 (as all the recent Princes had). That makes the three chosen names somewhat more special.

He will be known as HRH Prince George of Cambridge, and when he becomes King, probably either King George VII or King George VIII. (There is some speculation as to whether HRH Charles, the Prince of Wales will take either one of the regnal names: King Charles III or King George VII. Charles, the Prince of Wales, has responded by stating that he hasn't picked a regnal name. However, his name is Charles Philip Arthur George.)

I'm not surprised that this would be a name for the son of HRH Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, as King George V and King George VI are well-liked monarchs. On the flip side, I would expect any daughters of HRH Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge to have Elizabeth or Victoria as one of their names.

I don't care what they name their child.

"And I don't know why Louis should be so special to William."

Yeah, I don't know why Louis is so special to William Arthur Philip Louis.

How predictable can you get? I am really disappointed. Proves again how conservative and boring William and Kate are.

If Alexander is supposed to make a nod to three Scottish kings (and not honour some relative or friend), it would have been much nicer had they chosen Alasdair.

And I don't know why Louis should be so special to William. He never even met Mountbatten.

@ Joshua N: Prince William has Louis as one of his names because Mountbatten was like a grandfather to Charles. Do you really think William named his child after himself?

I think he maybe know has Prince Alex. I just can't see him be called George by Will and Kate so a little nickname might happen just like how we all call Prince Harry, Harry but his real name is Henry.

A dignified name for a King, George VII or even George VIII (If Charles uses George VII) has a regal ring to it. Not that I will be alive to see it.

I was hoping that they would choose something less "royal" or at least nothing too current (so not Charles, Edward etc). It's kind of predictable. An ok but safe name

I would have named him after someone non-royal who had played a big role in the UK's history, like Winston Churchill. It would have been a nice gesture, but I guess they decided to play it safe.

I like it. It's a classy timeless name. I'm just glad it's not anything like "Apple" or "North West"
